This $700 Million Mega Structure is DUBAI’s Most Futuristic Building by Zaha Hadid: Is a game-changer for Dubai! (video)

In the heart of Dubai’s Business Bay, a striking architectural marvel is redefining the city’s skyline: the Opus, a $700 million masterpiece designed by the late Zaha Hadid. Renowned for her revolutionary approach to architecture, Hadid’s vision for the Opus was to create a structure that embodied the essence of Dubai as a city of the future. The result is a unique fusion of art and engineering that stands as a testament to innovative design.

The Opus, unveiled in 2006, features a fluid, sculptural form reminiscent of a melting ice cube. This iconic structure is not merely visually stunning; it serves as a dynamic ecosystem housing luxury residences, a high-end hotel, world-class restaurants, and modern office spaces, all under one roof. Mahdi Amjad, founder and chairman of Omniyat, the developer behind the project, played a pivotal role in bringing Hadid’s vision to life. “If you do unique architecture, it actually changes people’s lives,” Amjad remarked, highlighting the transformative power of the Opus on its inhabitants and visitors.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a breathtaking experience that begins in a four-story glass atrium, which serves as the lobby for the ME Dubai Hotel. The lobby is adorned with elegant white marble floors, mood lighting, and distinctive seating pods that invite guests to linger and appreciate the architectural brilliance. Hadid’s signature style is evident throughout the hotel, with a cohesive design that integrates both the interior and exterior of the building.

With 27 levels—20 above ground and seven below—Opus boasts an impressive total area of 907,400 square feet. The building’s exoskeleton framework is a feat of engineering, allowing for its striking curves while ensuring structural integrity. Each of the 4,544 custom glass panels that envelop the building was meticulously shaped using a cold-forming process, showcasing Hadid’s commitment to both aesthetics and functionality.

Within this architectural gem, the ME Dubai Hotel offers 93 elegantly designed rooms and suites, merging luxury with Hadid’s artistic vision. The hotel features a state-of-the-art fitness center and a serene spa, providing an escape from the bustling city life. Fine dining options abound, with six world-class restaurants offering diverse culinary experiences—from contemporary Japanese to classic French cuisine.

The Opus is more than just a building; it represents a vision for the future of urban living. It fosters a vibrant community, with residences that share amenities with the hotel, creating an interconnected lifestyle experience. Amjad, who has been instrumental in the development of Dubai’s architectural landscape, sees the Opus as a reflection of the city’s ambition and creativity. “This building sends a message,” he said. “Never settle for the ordinary. Always push the creative capabilities to find the next step.”

Hadid, known as the “Queen of the Curve,” left an indelible mark on architecture with her unique approach that blended organic lines with futuristic design. Though she passed away in 2016, her legacy lives on in the Opus, a building that continues to inspire and challenge the norms of architectural design.

As Dubai evolves, the Opus stands as a beacon of innovation, a reminder that with courage and vision, extraordinary possibilities can be realized. It encapsulates the spirit of a city that is not only proud of its past but is also eagerly embracing the future. The Opus invites visitors and residents alike to experience a space that transcends mere architecture, offering a glimpse into what is possible when creativity knows no bounds.
